( c7 n; X$ ^4 l' n2 e7 l/ t3 aExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall

(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor

vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
4 @+ I( l( K) i6 G, X3 z(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
m8 D9 F& j- {4 e! O, f# bpermit another person, v0 Z' @7 j- f
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or! p$ t: \9 i U: c0 L& C0 F
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
# H2 I z1 h% H* Funless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;, J& V: O1 b) Y
(d) give or lend a financial
/ z8 Z" l' \* o1 Y' Qresponsibility card or a copy of it3 h. O& C5 C" z- S: D4 F8 [
to a person not entitled to have that financial6 L& A4 v# B1 [/ S+ E; w$ x, A
responsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway8 o" ]: G4 _+ \6 y1 U) M+ ^
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
3 L( b' c5 B( {2 S' othe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection( C+ y$ `+ s) ]5 p, L k
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
9 J7 I' Q( l8 h0 g. onot an insured motor vehicle.

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
. W7 l/ T5 f# _ }$ zAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this

8 f$ V; _ @0 v7 J8 B* fSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a

by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy z) ^! l. R6 p9 h3 Y( P; {, c
outside Alberta.) O0 P4 I9 b* Q+ \

' ^, H* Q/ y, o# }8 z$ H1 d, M) HA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
% c/ T& G% ]/ `3 M% t u$ T(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,. B6 a3 q% Q3 p! S8 M
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25004 }9 O& g5 a; y8 Z8 ~- Z: }
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
' @. r: I; `! y6 A9 \ M9 Rimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not% z* h7 ~/ z* N/ F% \' N1 p
more than 6 months
