Roles and Functions
+ N) h4 E \0 h) r4 i. z0 ~The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
* A( A1 O1 ]. x$ I6 W4 h( corganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
) m" D4 F- X# f+ O, A$ w! Moperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has. V; i; J0 B. [1 ^/ K; R( e
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,4 b% I% w7 s; u* G/ V, X w h
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
3 P( ^0 j/ L* vboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
" N* a! B8 L/ |( D3 Mconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an8 \) g9 t" ?5 | @; B; }
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires+ k( c* i; h7 F' B
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
X+ {" n: R% d. q0 Lall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant., h w, z9 r; P" Q$ z" x

Functions and responsibilities:
9 n' E1 h* O8 v+ h+ [: AThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
' \8 p1 V1 D) N0 M1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
5 @1 ~* I( o9 {officers of the Coalition5 c0 f% c, l& I& C Y
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural% T* u2 ` E5 {! S
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations: F5 L& z- L6 m7 ^8 ]( C; k6 ?
and public institutions
( O3 G" P# l+ D0 h3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through, J! c- p- S$ R* n# W
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
5 u: M1 t5 r& w2 [' j- e0 P& q4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
) V+ s5 a1 m- d, y A% oorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with: P0 Q4 O: w- o$ K6 P3 P

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working3 W e* A5 w+ K& r

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its5 C3 }- I9 ?: S; T" J* [; I
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of) H ^* I5 [* c4 A
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the. G! \+ @. _! E7 U1 Z
members of the Coalition’s financial condition./ W: [% ] o/ u- H
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

* ^7 e/ E, T6 L QRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
4 _) Y- M1 q1 A& BAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
6 V5 ^& a& c s/ _implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
* U# c, b0 ~. v% Qoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.7 B5 X7 I9 e! n8 w% k5 g
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
$ a) j, n. I. f8 ?& zaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should! Z2 O8 E$ }9 x3 U2 S
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
% ~* G- s4 n# C1 v9 z& i! |; m8 M7 p# Sparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and+ E' i, D. W3 G
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
, ?0 Q3 p6 k8 B* V4 Z/ sdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial' l& J! u- v/ Q3 v5 g+ y( K
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
0 ~. j$ J# }7 a0 z" X" kmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
