The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition8 j' P, Q0 a+ }& F# e7 }" w
Roles and Functions
4 Y% C. j. i: SThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
5 _# `1 g- }4 Q4 |7 \3 G- Qorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the( R, S) m3 `' r. @% x
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has0 [& Z4 v0 c7 }' F9 K- p
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
~! |( F; x% v1 @0 \3 uoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular7 P) ]6 p, H( A' H I5 \; ?
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
7 q7 h6 ?1 y/ f$ E& w% E% Mconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
' \, ]0 i+ F7 [employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
) A; ?1 z' S, f, nstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
: y, V0 Z5 D" T6 @all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:- C) n5 m" L4 O
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
6 O* o7 s' {& L# ^( i1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
$ R9 d# ^- R, m n4 u u1 j# Zofficers of the Coalition# k% ?& v5 x5 }" U
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural: V. I. V ~1 L: B4 S0 G
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations2 l9 @$ k% K2 t# S
and public institutions. x1 T' x" F" E
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through! V, j2 Z1 \1 w7 d
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives

organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with6 v' t2 i* L- u8 l) z* g1 _. G

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community& G& a, J x. o
leaders

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working, B; c; e" b5 O( Z9 d; D* O8 l
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically5 c" T* @& i" K# N+ I
diverse backgrounds C+ P; z! o& L/ e7 v7 V* D) G) U
) F3 D+ J$ y; X: ?1 t" }) YAdministrative responsibilities:/ @; v) \6 w# j, m3 l: X
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its, C, ?1 X; }7 B, c% g9 {
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of% C0 G- F2 P2 Z" i4 O" d
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
1 e7 k* ^9 n0 u* v v, smembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.; P- i( d' R. ?
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
9 V4 {) f2 w, g* H6 FMulticultural Coalition+ d8 d. u' w$ }- z: h5 q$ Q* M% Z
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board; l" B! e D5 ~( c" X3 e! t& ^: l3 ^. [
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
# i6 {; A9 z/ kimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating7 E/ ^, o. F/ I& r
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.+ J5 W+ F3 t c. G
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
D' f( b% [# Z3 J1 q; g# C+ daims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should# B! D: L% r2 G0 N
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 o/ S2 u. \# y" A7 x( O
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and" Q8 \: T; w2 }3 o8 |; z
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
6 H& Y5 u8 Z" wdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
1 }. s/ Z6 S5 }statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
m: r! [' e* bmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of6 _9 z0 R$ B K
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of) u2 ?% {7 g: X g) R2 G
policies already adopted
