( n; i u- X' P [The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
$ h% U5 }) v" i7 X2 B( DRoles and Functions
- ` V0 ?& g- t8 mThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
; {$ O, E# o& c% j2 H* porganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the7 D7 `8 ]7 { k4 T/ g* a, L# J
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
) X: g0 H6 ]& q' Hthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,1 W' W( Z" B2 {+ K6 }
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
: y7 }! G5 S# {board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is/ h% b5 M& I# N/ [8 m3 s7 e5 I
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an6 Q% W5 L" `! a4 S# c2 y$ W
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires. O2 k" o8 F+ U+ O s7 j
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
% o& S5 ]% c, _1 T! e# Zall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant./ \7 L3 M% `% i; G6 k

f" q. p0 Q2 @7 d( u5 mThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:* ^5 d# [; R3 P2 g7 g; ?
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
" g9 M4 O% X" p I& Iofficers of the Coalition( K" s& `& y. B2 ?
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
- O* U2 N& v* Q0 z4 |organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations+ e% ~8 ^* |0 x6 c/ h
and public institutions
+ a; r$ s% z3 K' p# E3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
. H g: E2 u6 b% }+ A) ?% mfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
) C6 G. F$ }0 `, w4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
' D2 t$ H0 s% O9 y ?organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with/ Z7 _* v" i, h% w! n
these organizations
/ [3 e E& z7 S. q. r5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community7 ]/ {; M2 {1 J6 J
leaders
& n/ Y6 b) V( R5 `, R6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

Administrative responsibilities:
" m0 n7 E6 Z- Z- O, e1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
# _" @3 Q* o) O* vregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
- q3 h2 q+ O' odirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
' \3 A8 c# v; W( Amembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.1 s; Y e' h h9 Q5 I+ }
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the6 p) l, m( n0 r9 k2 l$ s) b& r3 @+ q' {

* Y) E8 o ]5 Y8 a% e% JAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
: b' F6 m* m) o' Kimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
; A* t# i7 @+ }8 Ioperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.# U: |% _! x% m8 k8 l. [- q
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and% u& Z4 W9 k, K. |7 h* h$ R
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should7 r. [# B; @, u: `1 _0 }
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
! s% `) H7 U% {8 }" l4 ~8 R, {participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
. @& W( e1 V: C- y7 vfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
+ E/ }4 @/ c$ c7 V. ydirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
7 i* d7 q8 B$ F1 U: s& |statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all6 ?) s1 E3 @: W6 M
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of; A5 x3 T8 R; Y7 w/ U$ y3 D9 F
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and ^% o6 H0 V d

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an

6. Public speaking skills. Media relations skills an asset

any related field is desired

community level

Pay Range & Terms
