Primary purpose: The Social Worker works in partnership with settlement workers or
0 M& O* q% f$ _1 L$ ^0 A7 pcommunity cultural brokers from New Canadian Health Network partner organizations to
0 {2 v; {$ }$ f+ g3 A. M" d; Iprovide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs.

Nature of Work: The Social Worker will report to the manager of mental health services. 3 \8 j0 K" y; V
The position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff, 0 v1 n! }8 c6 h2 } ~" T( W
newcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social ; [# U- N1 A0 s. F2 X& [
Worker will assist in case planning, conferencing and providing support and advocacy as 9 a- W& k$ h* b) O# i
needed. As required, the Social Worker will assist in accessing community supports for
: a8 R& p, v& Y. Z/ A/ g) vnewcomers and their families. The Social Worker provides holistic and flexible initial * M$ C! U/ o# ^, I7 n$ Q+ j3 l* D5 n
assessment of life circumstances, needs, goals and aspirations and adheres to the client-

Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families.

newcomers in settling and fully participating in community.

Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers. : l# t j. { w% q3 m

Qualification ~- K1 o$ F! P
; J1 [9 [/ D; f' r4 a8 p( N Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and
9 l5 p& o% n8 Q% m1 X8 W5 gexperience in Social Work or related human service fields.
. w& `3 r# ?1 d$ W$ T+ d, n# k; j Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family
8 M& R- u+ T4 q. \5 psupport needs 7 s4 L$ | N8 n5 j
Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
4 ?: |# B; r5 Y# Z( r( ] Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages
* X( a, `3 _* R4 @, h. X5 Z Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate 7 }7 R' Y# y8 l& a

Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience working in a related field
