participation  in  society,  and  to  create  opportunities  for  the  experiences  and  skills  of
2 x8 H% l* ]" gnewcomers to strengthen and enrich their life in Canada.

  Primary  purpose:      The  Social Worker works  in  partnership  with  settlement  workers  or
" ]/ v8 Z- ]/ ~5 `: qcommunity  cultural  brokers  from  New  Canadian  Health  Network  partner  organizations  to
provide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs.  
  
, O5 V: d3 W+ @+ C' K  Nature of Work: The Social Worker will  report  to  the manager of mental health services.  
3 g- L; i) o  IThe position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff,
- H3 R, C4 J) ^newcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social
Worker will  assist  in  case  planning,  conferencing  and  providing  support  and  advocacy  as
. a# J; X0 k7 R- G. @+ m  @& l: i, ineeded.    As  required,  the  Social Worker  will  assist  in  accessing  community  supports  for
0 R, q( x! n# bnewcomers  and  their  families.  The  Social  Worker  provides  holistic  and  flexible  initial
assessment  of  life  circumstances,  needs,  goals  and  aspirations  and  adheres  to  the  client-
centered delivery model.

Key Accountability
  Understands and adheres to professional ethics related to social work.
* B, r4 Q+ a, y, t  Accesses comprehensive, up-to-date information about services and resources available
within the city of Edmonton and New Canadian Health Network partners.
0 y5 j; r1 J8 K9 h% m3 _( c0 `' z  Providing holistic information or advocacy services for immigrants and refugees served.
4 j* ~3 q+ a6 [: U' B  Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families.
  Provide intake, needs assessment, referral, case plans and action plans to support
newcomers in settling and fully participating in community.
4 |2 U5 M7 `4 }2 m  L$ D' E  Work in partnership with settlement workers or cultural brokers to provide supplemental
* K: \: R7 v: [: v$ i  Qcase plan support for clients who have complex needs.
5 U$ m/ C3 Q: b) h' t. D: b! v; S  Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers.
  Treat all clients with dignity and patience in order to listen deeply and give thoughtful  
# n4 q8 F( a% K' ]service.

( s2 b5 G; i/ ^$ v
  Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and
- s6 Y# i  d4 p9 x' g0 q9 g$ Fexperience in Social Work or related human service fields.
0 h9 Q. @3 z0 B  L  Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family
3 i8 ], j6 w/ l# \; ?7 @0 Ysupport needs
  Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
  Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages
% I; [$ l% j( y* r3 t  Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate
insurance coverage for work

Experience:  Minimum of 3 years experience working in a related field
# i$ u" P/ F: B8 F+ T

  Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and strong commitment to providing quality services to

  Flexibility in terms of scheduling, including evenings and weekends at various locations
6 X' u5 e, S1 w( \! U( B7 ]' p- r  Previous experience in working collaboratively with staff from partner organizations

Strong English communications skills
9 \2 U& n5 G' R# \# P7 {Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages.
