5 R1 @2 g' I! o" gthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead - F( p' A( x2 R- ]+ g) D! c
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 6 v# Y, D# E( @+ w
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and + a2 t+ `5 m: w" V) Z# _; Z, J
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
+ u% A$ X( c* _; w& Q& |; t4 uEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

. ?5 W& ]' J/ d: I4 [  m. VReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 3 c5 W' x8 m4 v( A9 F9 w" Q
execution of the YWCA Strategy
3 h7 t5 g. J3 |3 ` # C, K1 l! x0 H6 z& g: h
Specific responsibilities include:  / U- T9 K' v% K# i. [

# }8 w% x# Y7 A# o1 Y" F9 J1 A1 w! f•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
; L4 H1 A3 ]$ D0 Hthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
$ r0 c1 o& J: S4 \/ Pthe Board of Directors;  
/ w7 N- t5 b# L( @& g•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
0 e) W" V) Y3 n; k5 j" m4 w" Qincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
1 }% T" O' b, \! }" H3 Jenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 7 Q9 V0 i6 ]; I" z4 g, b
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 9 X* Q0 D" |/ H) T2 |6 Z7 E
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ' f$ h$ u/ b& w3 Z7 c
the board;  
( x# H! H  j7 Z  R•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ' N3 O- g+ r% C( `& M
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 9 z4 z1 q/ g% y7 }+ J
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
1 A& b4 U1 u1 M•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ; _( \* t4 x- ^1 B1 B
changing needs of the organization and community; 4 j1 H3 U; z3 A2 E2 u# B# ^4 j
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 1 V& g  H' c3 f
commitments; 2 C* X+ s, k0 b+ G* K0 {3 k$ r
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  9 o+ l/ J+ ]6 v4 r  [  s6 J# a6 V3 D  o
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
# {) B5 Y% K5 N  b" Mselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  # W* U2 H/ X: O4 m; }% O& P
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
" c8 H& e( \+ W•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
4 d5 E# P0 J/ I/ K8 T2 Xeffectively and positively represent the association; " O/ N: A  L' C& P

2 k- ^7 L, o. U•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 4 g1 B# D5 N" _6 o; B1 u8 G
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
( `0 Y6 U" E. S% O* F•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 7 `2 t: o' S8 l7 M
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 7 h" n% F4 O# |3 G, B" q
the forthcoming year;  8 C9 U3 d+ }! t! s* u9 @* n
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
" l; i' u' X6 }+ K2 \  fpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ' x, F3 b1 L& X5 e9 q
YWCA Canada; and
* J" K9 }1 V% b- {! n•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 9 b5 O" M. B5 `& G, K
Forces.

" S" I! c' \, Q  ~; M$ `) MRequired Skills & Abilities
* ~' @5 e. m. _) C, Q* C+ ?•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
1 [0 ^; O1 H6 j' z; D•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
6 I5 u' z3 `& @. maround decisions, plans and actions;
0 V7 B' x+ E0 z; e# j1 o$ C•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 8 l9 A8 E% ^+ I: _( _5 X3 L, k3 N
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable & P! a/ X5 g0 V( H
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
+ n& I6 w: ]* d2 N•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 2 x* g2 S( z% K% c7 Q' X. e
simultaneously;
$ b6 i8 d  g! D  l•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build * y+ w  [4 T" a* z; s5 U$ b4 _
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
' C# O+ b. j9 u+ G# `- W7 [: X( t4 O•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ( y% |, S$ C+ R) u1 D8 g
•  Superior negotiation skills. - h& h# R+ j' O7 O# ~

Required Professional Designation / Certification
4 ~3 N: F1 S/ x1 Y1 j& n7 O•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
# I4 j  p6 w% G% f; t% V' Z   O9 i2 M! q( ]( `: n" K( s$ G" r
Required Experience
3 Z; j9 ^7 F; I% c•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
- ?2 O0 }- Q! w6 B( `# p•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
, S( o+ k( i) I$ q1 G) c; Tabilities; 5 b# O4 ]  R. S  W) z, }9 b
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 5 r" h- t% o* W+ v+ D
Networking and Fundraising;
5 k) b8 z( v0 _8 k•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 2 ]/ _$ U- p% P2 O7 u' R
and financial statements; and 0 h5 I0 E& O& ^8 m; t) i6 \
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
+ |8 v( n7 g+ f: _5 n# J1 g/ Qcentered perspective. : M5 ]- I! H9 p+ Q2 B% u
