The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ' d* G; I: Z; `  t5 f
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
8 P! J9 D' F8 L7 R9 q0 A  sthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
. v8 A4 P1 y& C- ?% Q$ H1 ]' c6 fEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and % Q5 l- D' z4 `
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
9 D7 g0 f6 }8 b% ]9 d* BEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities
& m+ F, F0 z' O
$ v2 W7 Q$ X- ^9 W! ?' aReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and $ ^. R: P# Z  |6 Q' e
execution of the YWCA Strategy . F6 n* Q  K- F; ^$ z
+ ~1 P, `6 c5 a8 ~' V2 x
Specific responsibilities include:  
* C: m, G( S+ j6 i - F1 u* C' ~  t1 O
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of : Y7 i. \9 R  t8 ]
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 2 z, Z- Q, R* X5 A$ A$ |9 d
the Board of Directors;  6 }) B* R& a* |# x6 ^5 q
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 2 s0 P/ [+ d% B2 j2 U, F2 i% u
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
. B( d4 q& s& B9 \5 ]# uenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
$ A2 _- y8 H% V" K  J4 c•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ( N9 \$ C3 J; ~
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
9 j1 j5 q' X2 ~! d3 ?% T! {the board;  
/ a: R" F9 ^+ B* a•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
' A( y# W7 v  A, x. T) E•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 3 b' w+ ^2 n1 x5 i! ~/ [; q6 H
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ' e: S; @# W8 z% s
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
* i( j* G; \: l" ^! }changing needs of the organization and community;
. d1 l1 x% Z6 n8 a( O6 `•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
) a3 Z. ^1 A4 D: E5 ~commitments; * c0 Z) \. a/ x% b3 M" [& e
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
- P) {9 O, Z6 j•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
, M9 e& _* u: L( q+ Xselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
6 P/ b; S3 b" e* y3 G•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 3 G, H& a& ?) I. E0 g, K) I# E" s
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to $ B# E  ^# p, L$ P3 q0 u
effectively and positively represent the association; * P& P+ n  {# G4 L5 v! Z

! K- a2 N9 e7 P, P$ J3 O•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
8 j4 O* V2 X' S  L* Cthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  - W4 V- K+ M7 `# B
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 0 {9 h' Y. W1 b. ~
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ( j5 [0 Z3 F! T
the forthcoming year;  # `. }& e# h4 P' r4 u! v
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
) P1 d8 K# @8 @, vpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of - k6 T* h0 t1 V  q
YWCA Canada; and - O8 P2 M/ s6 j4 m7 |) f1 V% W
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
, v3 [) B- S: B% t  hForces.

* M) \; T: ^2 n6 t, g" F: B0 ^( X, QRequired Skills & Abilities
2 h  _- J: o& R# ]9 c•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
& y6 O9 E# V+ ^( g•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 9 L' \' I# u" o. u$ G, X3 n
around decisions, plans and actions; 4 s1 U0 p( m/ {) J! Y5 ?* ~; m0 F
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
7 X2 |: q5 ]  B& s+ m•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
! g6 P4 y. x* m4 K2 ~and achievable with realistic timeframes; % r9 N' F) S$ U) Z, V
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
+ B  q- t! y" Wsimultaneously;
$ [( [# J; f5 Q, l& ]  a" S) V- H•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
- o, u% \0 |8 r: ?$ @' ]rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 9 c. s+ B3 N9 C6 O$ }* O) Z! ^5 u
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 3 o/ l+ n3 c3 q* H% Z2 b
•  Superior negotiation skills. - F8 S# U1 J) N

Required Professional Designation / Certification
# I% n# d& D; S' _2 w" ~•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
: s% K4 F8 a( F! f2 i ) o. q: M( z# y' E9 O. R+ _
Required Experience
# z* Z, s) c1 n3 T•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
* ?/ ~: T$ K3 A% ?6 _•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
" I  a  n9 v1 L  z2 g8 M) Zabilities;
2 R, X2 B5 C4 g6 F" T9 Y& b: t•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
3 L  W, t1 p( o. y& e5 c2 K8 M, @Networking and Fundraising; 1 W# [1 w9 X+ C7 _: G
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
/ [  K8 ?) n4 n; n8 R# rand financial statements; and 0 f' N7 f7 f: H# o7 u: V
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women $ P$ B  ^+ E/ A' _
centered perspective.
