In collaboration with the Director of Care, develops the philosophy of nursing, statement of purpose for nursing services, goals and objectives, policies and procedures and the description of nursing functions.
% W; x) Q- e. v, wPlans, directs, develops, co-ordinates, implements and evaluates resident care services.
+ ^3 ^6 S$ H+ M0 D# w( S7 |Aligns resident care services with the defined needs of the internal and external community. ' _ _/ M6 Z( t0 D3 S
Oversees the financial and human resource management of the service. 0 K/ m0 n0 ~) a/ A' d1 @0 F
Maintains the service in accordance with legislative and professional standards.
7 `7 U) h7 M* ?) y& ~Maintains a liaison with hospital, medical staff, community and health care related disciplines and partners to ensure the most effective provision of care delivery in the facility. + I; q" V5 [' B6 K3 t1 M+ A. d
Exercises authority over resident care staff such as; supervises, directs, evaluates, hires, fires and promotes for the purpose of ensuring quality care and a safe, effective and efficient work environment.
0 p( t( T$ L! h" g" S- bEnsures the availability and maintenance of Nursing Department supplies and equipment to meet the departmental needs in a fiscally responsible manner. - u9 G8 m. ]9 r# {6 j9 V8 x
Discusses and collaborates with the Director of Care on issues relating to Infection Control and co-ordinates associated monitoring activities within the facility. ( b, q! {. e. G# A4 \
Assumes responsibilities of the Director of Care as required in the absence of the Director of Care. . u# E/ }* r4 a( D/ X' u( `
Is knowledgeable of the Resident Bill of Rights/Governing Principles and endeavors to promote it. 7 N% w. e* n2 ]3 j
Ensures resident satisfaction and continuous quality improvement initiatives are promoted.

( @( q9 a9 z1 A# v2 jA Registered Nurse meeting the requirements to holding a license in the applicable Province. 5 W F$ j& z. r' ~1 G; Q
Post RN education in gerontology or 3 years experience in long-term care. " i* c; u/ o/ o- G0 T) v' i* w$ n
Post RN education in management or 3 years relevant managerial experience.
% \, q" T/ i" U- p& O ?5 fPossession of strong motivational, team building and time management skills. ( p9 F- b5 d( u/ @/ u
Is computer literate in Microsoft Word and Excel. + z+ a4 S3 K% b2 T4 _3 S
Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset. 6 z) m. B" q% X
