SKILLS TRAINING FOR IMMIGRANTS

Program Overview:

Integrated Employability Skills Training gives immigrants the essential
skills needed for success in the Alberta workplace. This 5-month funded
- n9 o6 q* Q! c- `program combines classroom-based training with work site visits and work
) W9 ^  p9 [5 v6 Eexperience placements in high-demand semi-skilled occupations, such as
# y4 r) P* k5 r: E8 Nwarehousing, customer service, hospitality, healthcare support, food
! f- y8 S& q' H8 L  J% T( A: Xservices and others.

Candidate Profile:
3 D; P& M& `2 x
8 O* s9 I( n: d" r% ~8 TCandidates for this funded program must be landed immigrants, Canadian
citizens or refugees who are eligible to work in Canada and who have:
*        English communication skills in the 4 - 6 range on CLB
* ]- J4 a( v+ e. T2 a*        Basic literacy and numeracy skills and some secondary or post-
secondary education
3 p0 m) O0 w0 l; [*        A genuine interest in finding permanent employment in a high-demand
4 o( S% R0 M. n' w5 qoccupation
; R) O# q& W+ Z  L*        Availability to study fulltime for 5 months and then be employed
*        Willingness to commit to a program and future job
; a' G6 B& G; ~8 s# }7 t*        Resided in Alberta for the past 3 months

Program Description:

* l" G1 P# r) k                        *        4 months classroom-based instruction and
field trips
. }3 Z' o, I- A8 H9 t% X& M        *        Improve your English while learning about a variety of
8 v3 @3 K+ Q5 t& ]7 i% u( r7 G9 chigh-demand occupations
        *        Increase computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Internet, etc.)
& q1 y5 [$ R3 S- K$ \% l        *        Write a winning resume and improve interview skills
        *        Get First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certificates
        *        Take advantage of one-on-one employment counseling

        *        September 12, 2005 to January 31, 2006
