Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
) ~4 S3 h: x- n* P; [, vMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
) R" i: y1 z4 Y/ y& t4 u5 M. X(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about0 Z }0 }+ _4 Y- _1 G6 U+ z
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
" O, b4 q* k0 j0 r6 gmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
$ a/ l3 y7 x7 j5 ]$ k( tvermin-composting and residential recycling.

4 ]( }3 |! y# R& u! F" xThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
& {' w1 ~. n1 [% Q: Oto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates+ V" `" S5 A- R% W
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
e( n7 c% R8 A/ L+ A3 D+ M! ereduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important7 {/ L0 s& K3 k% S0 N7 \& B7 ~
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
7 I' T) v' z' u7 \importance of composting and recycling.6 q# G- g q( N7 V+ E9 a: h+ d: T
& \# Z' C$ T5 v/ K" TExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
2 P+ w4 Q2 N. H7 c0 H1 _) OReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
1 u9 R( n6 a! y5 j7 ppublic education display booths; assisting with programs and& t d4 u. W# y
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at4 M& A7 o; f4 O, W. v
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

8 h' ^' y" V* m+ vThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
, t8 G4 Y5 j) \8 @, V9 H3 N8 dvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the& A( V7 X6 U. i3 r9 ], \ ?

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
