! T, r. C1 O' x# gDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
$ @; N& [5 i- r( P' Y+ ` E" yMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
C( n! U- n9 i p8 M/ \2 \( O(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about" X3 ~! d! Z, A$ ^0 w5 |* A
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
1 f- m" P$ g- f( vmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
' z& Z, w/ j5 X. T9 Q/ k Avermin-composting and residential recycling., Y4 c4 v4 _% v1 j
0 h a) c7 v" A3 m3 tThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
8 L0 n8 d& k4 ito various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
. h/ T, {1 }2 }, s) jcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:3 s. q8 @. \, H* ^0 K
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important- |1 m3 Z7 Y- a- D9 u6 ?) Y
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the: j* s# b% ]9 A x( n+ D& V
importance of composting and recycling.0 r/ D. ?, [/ C# e9 ^2 l
+ A& I) t9 ~; R4 l: P! c% s1 |5 P% t, O: gExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
. q7 Q5 N3 |) C# X" @6 T$ H+ Q, ~Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;% {, W1 E- [5 z; y; l; X& n8 S
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
5 `8 P0 w9 n, p; z( b4 c8 [maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
" w% U/ S( v3 N& ]1 T- |7 {: R5 F4 qvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
% j% K- Q8 [$ R& b- F( Y+ Ppresentations.8 \8 P/ P( e" m0 l
3 ?2 A8 N* _8 gThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and" Z: U! b2 W$ p% Z8 _
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
