' L7 X, T. F' ~& B9 lDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the$ E) N/ Z& C: O2 [& _" R. \$ \
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule# l' H( A: A0 H8 E$ W* u2 ]
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about, a+ w% o/ t; z- }" Q* v
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
7 ~' }1 C5 Q4 v+ Imanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;) b* l' n! J! N4 q9 h% l" K- H( _! A
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
$ z9 | @& I" G: _* M! b$ T: z3 T
5 q' M% S0 h+ I' A1 p( oThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
$ Z3 W4 Y) \& R, H+ ^' Vto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
; J3 ?+ H' r4 a: fcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:3 X/ Q @) D4 t) R
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important$ k( W7 ?/ g3 T1 v
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
7 P0 x) g: r# jimportance of composting and recycling.; g$ G5 q, \/ T
) {1 \9 a6 u; e. k: c" gExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the1 f! G3 S8 Y& f
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
- K6 w: w0 ^) h" K+ @! mpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
# y, ^3 n2 q9 _( `maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
9 l+ o. N$ J( y6 Qvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
% l# \/ k3 S6 `presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
$ i( C0 |) a) b$ \; q- i4 Gvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the/ }; _, \ g# h% c9 H2 X3 p z% i
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your5 W1 S$ c. a& V8 V( C d$ i
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master7 r, s. p2 O# w; {
