T/ ^: @1 b5 t0 W! f" V9 NDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
( U2 W4 ~2 @& Q& t) HMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule/ P& c) F5 Z; S5 ~8 ]% e) d4 r
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
& q0 ~( i5 D! J! a- |) T( Nenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste& I# s" \* y& V; Y- [
management; home composting; household hazardous waste; U) \) Q8 k# d. F/ d
vermin-composting and residential recycling.) Q [8 x6 R% R1 z7 J4 C; G/ X
0 ]: G+ M7 Z0 k7 [2 Z: X7 V8 ^This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips/ m" a n: Q% G: l
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
8 ?9 Q* p& u4 ?; l' ^% _complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
8 d% b" v! @( h5 B2 n$ Oreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important1 h! L' C, f0 S Z/ A* K, q
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the4 I' J: o C- h
importance of composting and recycling.

3 C% R/ k* e7 Q g) r: A6 fExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
1 w& ^! K g" z' S* U& @Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
& a) W' ]2 B0 O& _9 V9 |, Ppublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
/ S! b- B& W6 Jmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
: d9 `+ G; i& g3 n, |6 E6 pvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school, W/ `' e& y5 U' e
presentations.+ ^2 ?& J( j8 u8 b

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and! y% W5 M9 C& j6 k
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the7 y: e; X- W4 u: t
