There are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009. 6 h" `8 q3 \; B( b

Payment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:
! g7 @9 T3 F9 t9 I/ t, g* ]- l& {+ |. v9 Y& E
1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.
. Q( W& n: x6 @- W9 ~ 2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.
8 r: E/ I) W+ V 3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.* U* l# S8 q- ~" ^) P
4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.: D! X) G6 X. @8 M, T# W
5. New Albertans must register for the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan within three months of their arrival. |
