The Alberta government, already suffering from declining oil revenue, is now facing a dip in tobacco revenue.

1 H# S/ T: ], l7 dFigures from the quarterly fiscal update show a six percent drop sucking away $50 million dollars from initial budget projections.

( D3 H- r  T( {1 w- Y; j. P/ ?Angeline Webb, a Cancer Control Analyst for the Canadian Cancer Society, says "it appears that the Tobacco Reduction Act is having the desired effect."

That's when smokers will no longer be able to purchase their fix at post-secondary institutions along with businesses containing a pharmacy, and that includes supermarkets.

/ e+ s5 w, x4 z9 SBut the Campaign for a Smoke-Free Alberta is still calling for a two-dollar per pack tax increase to make smoking even less affordable.
