$ [- D( t1 j- ~) F; Y$ n. h6 CThe Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010./ R/ a7 P6 I# i& G

The project will focus on the following aspects of newcomers settlement services:1 W* G s# K+ l$ z# p
• Marketing and outreach to industry and workers* {, T6 Z0 b- h1 h
• Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”

• Interpretation and translation services

guidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign2 T5 ]* w& I3 A8 ~
Workers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and1 p4 y7 l' c+ o/ o" Z4 p6 I) U0 a
supportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.4 A5 k' q# q5 O+ k5 T' j

The Settlement Practitioner will also be required to deliver information and# S# x) K# i5 T, S" c- Q
orientation workshops related to settlement needs of Temporary Foreign workers.: t7 L% Q. q- F `
Workshops and group sessions will be centre-based, employer/industry based and
0 j/ s3 e9 V; S( Y Ccommunity based. Some internal and outreach weekend workshop facilitation is

implementing solutions for TFW facing a variety of challenges. It also involves

• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals J# }' G0 O# @: w. E$ Q6 c
• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN. a: C# h, Q* B4 Z
• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office7 H2 H" N* S; F1 U. ]2 T! G" E
• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required' Y, a6 T3 p. W3 F# U4 ]: ]7 `2 F
• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment5 g/ X3 z, i) A1 r$ Y5 F* C
• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services! x# `8 W1 D* q/ T/ Z
• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency
# w5 Y ?( s1 Q' x• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW
I1 R, W8 N4 M. M1 P' Z/ E, S1 o6 c• Promote English language services for TFW and employers. _9 B1 T- [( c
• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required* q% y5 x9 S3 B4 M$ e8 n8 v( Z
• Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers6 t o d/ C7 E7 |" o0 \
• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:! H3 m! t' _3 W$ l' \
• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context
0 A! d+ X2 N+ k" B0 ]+ p# i• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area

• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence) a5 G) I. z% ?* f
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making. c, N' K/ v( J p" ?4 H: g1 k
• Proficiency in English is essential, as is fluency in other languages( i2 q& Q+ h4 y, g2 L' a5 f9 |
• Spanish language proficiency is an asset
