Duties

% @, V! X7 `( @( Q1 z * Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis
9 g" P) Q( `1 C3 n * Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography+ |# H7 l u2 C
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques
1 U8 g5 u* I) W/ Z. j- [4 N * Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client6 x$ J1 z0 c4 x7 b7 ?9 k
* Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry: G( { o0 j z: i
* Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals9 G( X8 y- K- J {# g& K
* Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab. |) N1 C _7 d9 l2 Z) R+ Z
* Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices
! Z( o) [- S- r * Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)4 G! s) Y, K$ N5 i) K4 |
! _+ k6 w0 ^0 f N: j1 _Qualifications
# t# Y3 v: T( A6 m: O6 Q
* i$ ^. y1 R! O1 s5 l. [ * Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred
" ?5 R! r8 z2 F. r * 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)
( y% w" p4 N$ Q! m" V ?+ } * Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel
$ [6 y2 J4 \* g* W1 {4 I& j * A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures A5 S8 X3 R% U* r
* Experience conducting routine maintenance on standard rock sample preparation equipment2 |0 V( U" X1 t8 \
