The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will! ^. y* O9 o" S, I1 o7 _/ N
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based h- e' |" x# m( h
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
* ?9 n4 ^2 H2 F- \program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that. A) i7 ]! h: {. u/ l7 L$ k0 W
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.6 z3 C6 Z% q6 C [
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our8 b6 h' U6 m" L: j& Y. Y6 |8 F
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
+ V% C" H9 |9 L; W/ A# X* Iconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
* i% ]5 g/ G0 C, o* s+ s2 M* t( Y% QVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
2 }$ \9 D0 J0 G3 w2 k3 ynecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
5 C1 r) N2 a2 |/ y! _ J1 t# J# ~youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose! t" o0 o* t1 r1 w/ |
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment' o/ L$ Y6 f v
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
, C0 E* h, i# }exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and4 Y0 x$ H, N7 k+ u
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a4 D- ] B; f( C1 A7 o
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.

YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.

- L, ~& e1 e, q3 x& ^• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
- w9 Q2 g! ~5 G1 \community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are9 n9 k) W7 r* b$ X
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities/ v, W. m e/ U u( y
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
+ p, Z: ?( \% q" b* Mbeing realistic to each youth participant
& r$ T# z" C6 g- R6 O• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the" R* c7 T5 q4 Y8 `
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
7 {( I! d; t/ geach participant
8 t- B' I6 c- j• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
( s9 M" {: J3 A# |; E" |3 j7 vcover letters and resumes etc.. `. a8 N2 w# [& G1 A2 f
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
- w( r0 a- v$ c7 vexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the( D% q& J; `/ o4 V6 m- r9 a
placements& k2 _8 [; n5 Z; d1 U% Y+ M. v
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
1 e6 }0 D" |' f8 F' bthe process, and supporting the youth where needed) q& x( e2 u6 A \ R. _2 W; P
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach K% u8 d' z1 V c
is being fulfilled for each youth
z4 W, s5 q3 t• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are: A9 N$ J) g, s( c
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project/ B5 B$ Z Y k! A

Experience Required: Employment Developer
2 l7 E8 ~: w. _5 Q5 U Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
7 \# Z. d- F" L" A' \2 ` { A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
