The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
( p, Z, n. U( W6 V6 }6 D, t( Ybring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based& f1 i [9 ]$ W7 X8 v' }
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
7 V4 J& G6 u. E1 e* Y$ Zprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
' G$ Q# l/ T6 B; W7 }1 Astands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
& N4 }) M9 Z- e v. HYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our. c& ]8 P& b& w- O+ ?9 v i9 S4 }
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
2 }. g/ u+ Q9 d1 z6 Uconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the9 Y4 c! X6 g/ A& T7 s4 t6 M
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
" A/ V. J9 ?. mnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
5 X: c* g m c: {7 _2 Syouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose7 Z' T% i. ]) n% _( C: }
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
2 l' j$ Y0 h; t7 U+ t) j1 Bdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and# I( _/ h1 m$ p5 |! p
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
3 ~/ N: X* A9 e, Dwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
. F9 O( N; G1 K, C) V, R6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.- J5 J8 [; V6 |' w4 \8 i0 L
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central6 h5 I- k9 D7 u( Q
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.6 B# i, _ b- b8 n: L7 @+ r
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
; E, h# n) `0 c/ n$ y' fextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
: m5 l( r3 P* }% X8 F% W% D• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
9 J7 e7 K! o/ Q# y1 f9 n8 Rcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
' ~1 q o. ?7 b; g# Owilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities. e# C5 v: Q. a2 }, m: T- h' z
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as+ U) k- C) h* o2 @. K4 u8 l
being realistic to each youth participant
/ C6 J" B) z4 e0 G! X" C# E, b• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the+ ~* F0 o" I" \* K* A2 A
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
+ V" _8 @1 ?8 ^; qeach participant
$ F0 ~4 e- H; Z5 C. b' x: R0 m+ N• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
% a2 x1 g/ x0 s3 h: y3 K; dcover letters and resumes etc.3 t9 e& k2 C5 M* e" A
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
9 e2 ?; z+ i3 T) G, F; Qexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
/ l# I' A+ u( O3 u \) k( yplacements
0 Q4 |! p$ Z* R' ~) {7 a' W( t• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating# I# b/ U3 i: h M5 m: m/ D
the process, and supporting the youth where needed3 E* A( q) f3 X4 f
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach8 W, A: z( v, k* W! u G4 O
is being fulfilled for each youth
4 [5 N) n" `- R• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted! _) \* N) A" l
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
