* i& {6 O8 R9 n: cbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
0 j" L& B2 ?' T8 `/ l+ Z* V, h& cemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day; ~5 z2 J4 P. E5 p, _! M4 H
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that( u( H$ ?. N* c/ l
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.) \2 l: @0 ]* K, x" T
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
, F8 j& A9 r) w/ U8 Imission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve! Z V+ u+ i u2 r, E# m: K3 P( k
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
4 r; c7 K; J& L9 K: ]" KVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
0 c1 v. j: d) A7 c& y: r4 [- Hnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve: M' M/ b. [( V& G; V( n- _
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose. Z# N% G, G+ ]; h' P! }7 I+ G
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
4 n% R% F' V' \7 ]" B( C8 {8 tdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and0 T& L( f8 c+ G0 Y+ G
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
. i; o! T2 k9 O, X3 c$ E7 O2 Pwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a4 d+ T' C# `/ R9 G
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.* w) K2 ?3 g% y! F% S N6 \* n& q
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central) v+ z& [+ d' C$ T: y
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.: A; U" Q* I) R2 D8 I
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of2 Z! W" M- p! N- _* Q" \! f4 |% u

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week); z# F& h6 S7 V: T8 x* C# r
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the l1 `! d+ v H1 E
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are6 z% t6 q0 m. M
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
+ u8 `" i/ ^3 {- R- G4 T) d• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
4 ?' r' j4 K0 s1 w" dbeing realistic to each youth participant
" V% X1 N2 a4 a8 @- K# c0 O* T• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
; R B- |/ v! u* ]youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to+ Z7 h( Q! b) X* [' S* e' y3 E
each participant
, t3 U& O' m% C• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
X' p9 ^4 p) k' A. ocover letters and resumes etc.
8 I5 r+ d; E7 W' l9 P3 K• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work4 d# S4 |! m$ I
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the7 ]. X7 w7 S' N) C! S( A+ e8 c
placements. [9 Q. O1 [8 R' J
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating8 O; G6 v8 T) U+ {! D
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
4 u9 j0 z5 @7 [3 E• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
' v1 c4 `% d) W, e mis being fulfilled for each youth" k5 c I1 i0 c2 W1 g8 n
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are

Experience Required: Employment Developer- L8 Q8 f6 D' }" e& \) q
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
e7 T% L, Y7 l0 H+ o' t. E A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.! c+ A& Q9 _$ k
