The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will* v2 X. j- L* B4 D
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
3 X1 O" M2 K6 n) S* D' v; Jemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
$ Z2 W3 ?# M& y# P' }program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that& F( T0 j) j6 T" p5 s% b
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
- I! C8 c' u E6 W1 S; o. oYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
7 r8 ?% ~( u, _! Q O, {mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
( R8 T, u+ l4 O7 l+ Aconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
3 C# O5 @/ a5 k+ ZVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills: e9 z3 d: T% T, i- }4 G
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve4 W; p( ]/ t& q O! g( _1 V! w" P4 {: r
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose% {" Z; b8 B4 |
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
' S, y( |+ g# ?( W! {2 R) ^# |development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
: Z) A J1 \. o8 K$ b9 Lexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and0 d4 ?) |) k8 {9 |1 O/ K' m$ g
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
6 e% | H( A" f) G7 L4 v+ ^6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
" }2 `% [' E) x$ W$ {. DThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central& @, G8 l5 ~: W5 C8 T4 i: y
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.* x0 w: A Z. V# I5 w9 [7 x9 G+ y5 x' M
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of- h2 M: u- a6 y7 U8 R

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the- Z6 p9 w5 x2 N
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
, r- }" E) L# Z4 P2 t- u7 o# W; b; `willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities G7 L. F# s) _) E" m
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
2 ?6 S7 a: w8 V" P6 @; ?4 }3 E7 Hbeing realistic to each youth participant
; d( n$ H2 e3 z6 Q• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
) k& h! t# N, M9 X7 Y4 z+ t4 p, `youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
* P4 k- K3 z5 K: t" ]each participant
" v; b$ j" L) f- U }, v' M• Assist youth with employment development including the development of3 L, k$ j/ t1 j
cover letters and resumes etc.4 t0 j1 M- B$ ?9 s
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work- N5 P; @4 w$ @: O
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
$ v( P) s% J' t! @5 Y1 hplacements& |& Z! E6 ]: ^0 v) p$ c4 {
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating' U, e3 d, C5 f% i) N
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
$ f0 }1 o3 u( b: S• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
% i& S) s3 o1 v$ t2 {7 B4 Cis being fulfilled for each youth# |# d# r/ x! a8 n
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
0 `( I2 h8 w& M3 K4 i0 frelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
2 h, D' e8 [( v" ?8 b: q3 v# X• Other tasks as they arise within the position
! a/ K5 w$ i! P# P1 x) T1 BExperience Required: Employment Developer6 W( r) s9 r- }1 ]% _8 p! P
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
! j' a# {, R7 o+ T A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
