The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
! h7 R8 ^: T3 v) _employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
7 u; i% _/ @. R' aprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
2 Q; E; N" f. q% M, s' @6 rmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
. y) c! X4 C/ Z" r% zconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
9 E- d" {' `% f0 LVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
1 o. ^5 E2 e. }/ r- ?necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
4 b; ~, Q: R4 a: U* s# i# Tdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
4 Y7 h; f3 u& H0 G  Pwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
) K8 J$ r. R( j, {: y2 BThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
! P. r0 x8 m  u3 U+ Vextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
. S. V* ~" k. L) k( g2 F6 awilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
$ ?" v4 U# x: v. \7 E; C) Bbeing realistic to each youth participant
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
  A& H- n+ D" Yyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
2 I. P1 j2 s. d4 g" reach participant
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
cover letters and resumes etc.
5 e* X  h1 x) T• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
- z9 h+ s8 v  x5 vexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
! U6 c" {$ v+ L% {5 Eplacements
9 F* O' U2 o. f# @• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
& j# K0 n6 A! ]! U' U% M• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
is being fulfilled for each youth
) U9 {) d7 B  T9 `/ s8 E* N• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
9 E. r1 N, g. m3 i, d- drelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

* `) n0 W# C5 f( z7 `( B" N3 M. R8 L+ v Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth

at risk as it pertains to employment
 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
