Other costs of leaving have also increased and the university

the fact that the university housing has no more space for newcomers
$ g W, m( A9 G# e, A$ |# t4 kand most of the newly admitted students who applied for housing were 7 ^: E, y {' b; J/ |6 E
asked to look for a residence on open market.

- v% S: g" E& @8 {( \While the average cost of living for a typical graduate student has
. K. {& O: X! B3 ?6 f: Zincreased by something more than 70% percent we are getting paid
4 t! b1 p1 h2 Q% `9 U8 S- @( Fexactly for the same amount of money that we were offered in our
9 W) t2 ]' ~) p! ~) n3 G5 aadmission letter (18000 CAD + 1500 CAD for international students T( d! J9 d8 }
=19500CAD. What I get is something around 1000CAD/month!!! after
: I" D5 G; T0 K: Mtuition fee and taxes). To make the argument easy to understand just $ v' n$ \. q' u8 h4 i
imagine that a new student gets the same amount of money that I am
# S* U' ^/ p, @9 }( d B& U- sgetting now and I was getting 3 years ago but he or she (like all of
- R3 d, E) \; k& L* B% i. Aus) has to pay twice as much as I was paying for housing when I was ; N8 ]0 H+ V2 V n
admitted and has to incur at least 70% more in average living costs.

Also have in mind that Alberta is a rich province and University of 8 g' w/ a% ?1 @
Alberta has a remarkable record in absorbing various money and grants

9 a- r, m8 A& y+ Rstudents are the main pillars of research work at the university.' ? l2 p! c4 ~8 X

My objective in bringing all abovementioned points in your attention
% r6 {# T. F& A9 lis to question the adequacy of financial aid for graduate and ; N# M& f# p; q8 a3 I
especially international students. Isn抰 it time for the GSA to take
) {8 L8 S0 I0 O4 K9 E- N
/ H+ T M' H. ~4 O' Linitiative in raising the issue of increasing financial aid for
) r7 h1 ^7 P( D& J. f5 R# y& N1 pgraduate students so that the can afford this increase in costs?
